🤝 Tucker District 3 Race: What You Need to Know

Two candidates are vying for Tucker City Council District 3: incumbent Alexis Weaver and challenger Sam Ulrich.

Weaver, an urban planner with 20+ years in community development, touts her track record on making Juneteenth a city holiday and passing Tucker's non-discrimination ordinance. She's focused on inclusion, transparency, and housing access.

Ulrich, a finance professional and father, wants to maintain Tucker's small-town feel while simplifying zoning rules and boosting community involvement in city affairs.

The hot-button issue? Pickleball courts at Tucker Recreation Center. Both candidates acknowledge problems with how the city handled community input. Weaver criticized the lack of proper engagement process, while Ulrich says neighbors need better notification before projects reach council votes.

The election will determine who represents District 3 on Tucker's city council. Watch the discussion ▶️ here!

📅 Election Day is Nov. 4. Early voting runs Oct. 14-31. Register by Oct. 6.

👀 Tucker Councilmember's Business Pitch Raises Eyebrows

A Tucker business owner says a city councilmember made an awkward proposition—then his permits got stuck.

Chris Brennaman, who owns Infinite Realities comic shop, is opening an arcade called Infinite Horizons on Main Street. In August, Councilmember Vinh Nguyen showed up with surprising news: he was planning a similar ice cream and arcade concept nearby. Nguyen's solution? Partner up and run the ice cream shop inside Brennaman's store.

"I wasn't prepared for anybody to come in and announce they were opening competition to me, let alone a sitting city council member," Brennaman said.

He declined. Then things got weird.

Around the same time, Brennaman's permits hit unexplained delays. After weeks of silence from city staff, his attorney sent a complaint letter on Sept. 8. Within 90 minutes, Brennaman's approval came through.

City officials deny any connection. They say Nguyen didn't interfere with permits, and staff found no evidence linking the two issues. City Manager John McHenry defended his team's work. Nguyen insists he requested no special treatment and apologized for making Brennaman uncomfortable.

“I completely understand where this can be taken,” he said. “I tried my best to draw a clear line between my person, the business, and the council work. It's unfortunate that Chris took our conversation as pressure.”

Still, Brennaman remains suspicious. "Sometimes it's hard not to put your tinfoil hat on," he said.

Nguyen says he'll look for another location, possibly in Avondale Estates.
