🥒 Should Pickleball Courts at Rosenfeld Park stay?

At the recent 6/10 City Council meeting, various members of Tucker’s community expressed concern about Rosenfeld Park’s Pickleball courts being replaced due to stormwater issues. Because new pickleball courts are coming to the Tucker Recreation Center, the current Rosenfeld courts would be exclusively for tennis after replaced.

Residents said they value the inclusive, beginner-friendly atmosphere at Rosenfeld Park. Many spoke of the strong pickleball community formed at these courts and suggested the city paint pickleball lines and provide portable nets so that the group can continue.

🏢 Other City Council Updates: FY25 Budget, Jim n’Nicks, and more

In other 6/10 City Council news:

  • Tucker’s FY25 budget – totaling $56 million – was approved with minor changes, including a 3.5% raise for city employees to combat inflation.

  • City council approved (5-2) a Special Land Use Permit (SLUP) that will allow Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q at Northlake Mall to have a double drive-through. Several residents and council members shared concerns that the design is not pedestrian friendly.

    • In response, the restaurant said they’ve made adjustments to the kitchen design to streamline drive-through service and prevent cars from blocking pedestrian pathways. Jim ‘N Nicks plans to be a sit-down restaurant, with amenities including a patio and indoor/outdoor bar.

🏗️ North DeKalb Mall’s Demolition and Transformation Plan

Big changes are coming as North DeKalb Mall is set to be demolished starting June 26th. The mall, a community staple for nearly 60 years, will make way for a new mix-used development called Lulah Hils.

Real estate developer EDENS plans to transform the site with retail and housing. With an estimated completion date in 2028, the project will add almost 2K house units, predominantly apartments, with 10% designated for workforce housing. The plan reserves ~50K square feet for a grocery store, but the specific store hasn’t been disclosed.

What are your thoughts on North DeKalb Mall’s transformation?
