🌳 8/12 City Council Updates: Fitzgerald Field Improvements, Tucker Town Green, and more

At the recent City Council meeting on 8/12, Tucker City Council approved several exciting updates for the city’s parks:
The city will move forward to Phase 2 of Fitzgerald Field renovations, which will introduce new electrical services for each of the park’s fields (costing $49K).
Construction for Tucker’s Town Green will start with Georgia Power converting overhead power lines to underground lines along Railroad Ave from Main St to 2nd Street (costing $387K).
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan will also be updated to reflect new parks added by the city.
Other 8/12 City Council updates:
🛣️ Contracts were awarded for road improvements to: 1) resurface Lilburn Stone Mountain Rd and downtown parking for $549K, and 2) to conduct a safety study for Hugh Howell Road for $80K.
⏸️ Council discussed but tabled the purchase of a $146K digital scoreboard due to contract concerns.
🍺 Council updated the business location approval terminology and alcohol licensure appeal process on the city’s website to clarify procedures.

😣 Violent Attack at Sherry’s Produce

On August 12th, folks at Sherry’s Produce were attacked by a violent male who was also seen throwing rocks at cars. Despite multiple calls to law enforcement, officers did not arrive until later.
The attacker was identified as a black male (early 20s), and police confirmed that he has a history of similar incidents in the area. The individual was arrested on August 13th.
The Tucker community sends its love and support to Sherry’s Produce. Stay safe and alert Tucker!
🔬 Science Gallery Atlanta coming to Northlake Mall
Science Gallery Atlanta is relocating to Northlake Mall, offering a vibrant new space with plenty of parking and nearby dining and shopping. The grand opening is set for September 14th, featuring the debut of their latest exhibition, Resilient Earth.

📚️🍷 Tucker’s new neighborhood bookbar
Exciting news, Tucker! Introducing our new neighborhood bookbar: Books and Brew! It’s clear that Tucker residents were eagerly waiting for a place like this, as the community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Books & Brew had a successful grand opening on Monday, August 12th. Located at 4316 Lawrenceville Hwy, you’ll find a great selection of books and a menu of wines and beers along with some food.

☕️ New Middle Eastern-Inspired Coffee Shop

Tucker is getting a new coffee spot! Mint Coffeehouse, a Middle Eastern-inspired cafe, is officially opening its doors at 3926 Lawrenceville Highway on Thursday, August 15th at 9am. After serving the Atlanta area with their mobile coffee trucks for 3 years, Mint Coffeehouse is now setting up its first permanent location.
The cafe will be open Monday through Saturday from 8am to 4pm, and offers a mix of classic and Middle Eastern coffee flavors, plus a cozy space for working or relaxing. Be sure to check it out!
