 🎆 Where to Watch July 4th Fireworks

Although Tucker’s Independence Day celebration fireworks happened yesterday (7/3), there’s plenty more action happening throughout the city. Here are some places you and your family can enjoy fireworks this holiday:

• Downtown Decatur

• Dunwoody Village

• Stone Mountain

• Olde Town Lilburn

• Chamblee City Hall

• Avondale Estates

⚠️ Detours on Tucker Industrial Road

DeKalb County implemented a detour on Tucker Industrial Road for sewer repair work, effective from June 24 to September 9.

• Until June 27th, they’ll be replacing old sewer lines, with night work scheduled from 7pm to 7am near Tucker Industrial Road and Elmdale Drive.

• From June 28th, they’ll begin daytime work from 8am - 5pm on weekdays (except holidays).

🏢 Updates from Tucker’s 6/24 City Council Meeting

• 💲City Council decided to keep property taxes level for the upcoming year, approving a rollback millage rate of 2.096 for 2024. This adjustment slightly reduces expected property tax revenues from $6.55M → $6.46M. Mayor Auman emphasized their commitment to keeping taxes steady while accommodating growth.

• 🏫 TSW Design kicked off a project to establish city design standards, with guidelines for gateways, landscaping, signage, and sustainable development.

  • Public input is crucial: TSW will ask for public feedback at 1) a community meeting at City Hall on July 17th, 2) a booth at the First Friday Concert on August 2nd, and 3) an online survey.

• 🛣️ Council awarded a contract for $230K to improve Fellowship Road safety to R&B Developer, Inc. These improvements – especially at the Fellowship Rd and LaVista Rd intersection – have been a top request from Tucker citizens.

A few weeks back, we were saddened to share that Thread Beauty Spa would be closing its doors after becoming a beloved small business in Tucker. We have good news: they’re staying open! 🙌 

That being said, there are major changes to their operations:

• They are only offering Threading, Waxing/Sugaring, and Laser Hair Removal by appointment only on Wednesday (2-6:30 pm), Friday (11am-4pm), and Saturday (11am-4pm).
