🙏 Tucker's First Mayor Wraps Up Historic Tenure
Frank Auman presided over his final City Council meeting on December 8, closing out nearly a decade as Tucker's inaugural mayor since the city's incorporation in 2016. Term limits prevent him from seeking reelection, and former councilmember Anne Lerner will replace him.
Auman, the former county Republican party chair, built a reputation for working across party lines despite occasional policy disagreements with colleagues. Still, he maintained strong working relationships with Democratic officials like DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson.
Under his leadership, Tucker completed its downtown Town Green project and took control of public works from DeKalb County. At his final meeting, the council honored him with a proclamation recognizing his mentorship of newly elected officials.
In a touching gesture, Auman nominated his wife Gaye as "Citizen of the Month," calling her a public servant who has accomplished much behind the scenes.
Auman kept his farewell brief, thanking his colleagues and constituents before calling his nearly decade-long tenure "a privilege" and "such gratifying work."
Other Council Business:
Approved resolutions supporting two major trail projects: the Tucker-Northlake Trail (2.5 miles connecting downtown to Northlake Mall) and the Greenway Connector Project, both eligible for 80% federal funding
Passed an ordinance creating "special compactor districts" to address commercial waste disposal issues
Delayed a vote on a LaVista Road auto repair shop permit until January 12
Saw the withdrawal of an application for a massage establishment at Northlake Mall

🚨 FedEx Truck Kills 77-Year-Old Pedestrian in Tucker
A FedEx truck struck and killed 77-year-old Berhane Tedla on Friday, December 12, in Tucker, according to DeKalb County Police.
The crash happened at 11:13 a.m. on Northlake Parkway near Crescent Center Boulevard. Investigators say Tedla was crossing a private driveway at Target when the FedEx truck, attempting to turn out of the driveway onto Northlake, hit him. The driver remained at the scene, and the incident is still under investigation.
This was the second pedestrian crash police responded to that weekend. The day before, on December 11, another pedestrian was hit at East Parkwood Road and West Ponce de Leon Avenue around 3:53 p.m., suffering moderate injuries.
The fatal crash highlights ongoing pedestrian safety concerns in DeKalb County. While pedestrian deaths dropped from a 10-year high of 59 in 2023 to 40 in 2024, DeKalb still has the highest absolute number of pedestrian fatalities in the five-county metro Atlanta region.
Local governments are working to address the issue through safety improvements including more sidewalks, safer crossings, better lighting, and traffic calming measures.
