🚒 New Tucker Fire Station Inches Closer to Reality

After years of waiting, Tucker's new Fire Station 5 on Cowan Road is moving forward.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue requested proposals in October and is currently reviewing them. The new station will do double duty—improving emergency response times and boosting the community. Plans include a trail connection for the South Fork Peachtree Creek Greenway and fourteen public parking spaces along Cowan Road for trail access. The project, funded by the 2017 SPLOST, is part of the broader effort to strengthen downtown Tucker south of Main Street.

🍗 Jim 'N Nick's BBQ Coming Soon at Northlake Mall

After years of waiting—and a 2024 council debate over its double drive-thru lanes—Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q is opening at Northlake Mall in the parking lot in front of Macy's. Back then, council members criticized the "very car-centric design" and worried about traffic congestion, though the restaurant argued the second lane was necessary for high customer volume.

Now that it's here, the community is split: some are thrilled to have a new BBQ spot in Tucker, while others aren't fans of the chain. Love it or not, Tucker's BBQ options just expanded. What are your thoughts?

Tucker Moments 📸

Tucker Wins 2025 (Sub)urban Smackdown Championship!

🥇 Tucker just took home its first-ever Golden Urby Chalice of Champions trophy in the annual metro Atlanta tournament, beating 64 other competitors across metro Atlanta!

After six rounds and nearly 8,000 votes, the "new city, old-fashioned town" demolished Grant Park in the finals with 70 percent of the vote. Along the way, Tucker knocked out heavy hitters including two-time champ West End, Virginia-Highland, and past winner Hapeville.

Since incorporating in 2016, Tucker has seen steady growth—its population hit 37,000 and retail businesses jumped 70 percent between 2018 and 2023. With its walkable Main Street, historic charm, 20-plus annual events, and thriving local businesses (yes, we still miss Hot Betty's), Tucker proved it's got what it take.

Check out how the 2025 action unfolded, with Tucker landing on top. Go, Tucker! Read more from the source: Urbanize.
