 🏢 Updates from Tucker’s 11/25 City Council Meeting

💰️ At its November 25th meeting, the Tucker City Council approved a change to the city's community redevelopment tax incentive ordinance. This will allow the city to increase property taxes on blighted properties, but if the property owner works to fix up the property, taxes can be lowered.

In other news:

  • 🏗️ Council awarded a $2.57M contract to J.G. Leone Enterprises to rehabilitate the Lake Erin Dam, with funding coming from the city’s budget and American Rescue Plan money.

  • 🚧 Council approved a $120K contract for construction administration of the John’s Homestead Park dam replacement.

  • 💡 Council green-lit a deal with Georgia Power to install 14 pedestrian lights at the new Tucker Town Green for $74K. The Town Green project is reportedly ahead of schedule.

  Tucker’s Facade Grant Program Helps Local Businesses Shine

Tucker business owners are taking advantage of the Tucker Downtown Facade Grant program, which offers matching grants up to $12.5K for storefront improvements. The grant covers up to 50% of the project cost and has been awarded to businesses like Georgia Gifts & More, Mint Coffeehouse, Trio Nails, and Nicky’s Undefeated, with more applications in the works!

The program, which started in July, received an additional $50K from the city’s Economic Development budget in October.

There are 3 grant tiers:

  • minor projects can receive up to $5K;

  • major projects up to $10K; and

  • historic restorations can qualify for up to 25% more funding

The grants are available to businesses in Tucker's designated character area, though projects outside that area will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The program is helping to enhance downtown's appeal and attract new businesses. 🙌
