🌳 Tucker Town Green Finds Its Footing Four Months In

The Tucker Town Green, which opened in November 2025, is quietly building momentum — even in winter, even without much programming.

Between January and mid-March, the Green logged around 11,000 visits with an average stay of 54 minutes. More telling: 55% of visitors have come back at least twice, and 26% have returned four or more times. People aren't just checking it out — they're making it part of their routine.

The Green is also doing what it was meant to do for the surrounding area. Visitors are flowing in and out of nearby spots like Shops at Tucker Depot and Village Burger, and one restaurant reported a 9% uptick in business since the Green opened.

Behind the scenes, a number of practical improvements are making the space work better — public restrooms, a waste compactor, a bike repair station, a new mid-block crossing on Second Street, buried power lines, and a resurfaced Railroad Avenue. A privacy fence was also added to buffer nearby Tucker Landing residents from the growing foot traffic.

More daily users are on the way. The 58-unit Views from Browning townhome development is under construction nearby, and Hearthside at Tucker adds an active senior community within walking distance. One business owner on Main Street is already capitalizing, cutting a walk-up window into an alley wall to sell ice cream and drinks.

Four months in, the Town Green is no longer a question mark — it's a space that's starting to hum.

🍅 Tucker's Beloved Sherry's Produce Kicks Off Season After Parking Dispute Resolved

Sherry's Produce, a Tucker institution for 28 years, opened for the season on March 27 — but it almost didn't happen.

Just before opening day, the owners of the adjacent Brockett Square shopping center told Sherry's that customers could no longer use the lot they'd relied on for years. Signs went up warning that Sherry's customers would be towed. Things looked grim for the beloved roadside stand.

The community wasn't having it. Longtime patrons flooded the shopping center owners with angry emails, customers asked Tucker city officials to step in (though officials said the dispute was between private parties), and coverage from Decaturish helped amplify the outcry. Within a day of the story going public, co-owner Tina Dorsey's father and the shopping center's attorney worked out a deal — 15 to 20 spaces, enough to keep the small business going. The tow signs came down.

"A mountain was moved," Dorsey said. "I believe y'all changed their mind."

On opening day, the produce stand at Brockett Road and Lawrenceville Highway was packed with regulars, hugs, fresh fruit, flowers, and a big pot of boiling peanuts. Many customers have been coming for two decades or more.

"I love my customers — they're not just customers, they're family," said co-owner Sherry Harris.

Earlier this year, the community also helped the family raise funds to purchase the property outright, spending around $300,000 to secure the site after nearly three decades there.

Sherry's Produce is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through December at 3863 Lawrenceville Highway.

😢 Blue Ribbon Grill Closes After Decades as a Tucker Staple

Blue Ribbon Grill served its last meal on March 29, 2026. The Tucker restaurant, which had been a neighborhood fixture for years, couldn't survive the mounting pressures facing independent restaurants right now.

The owners had already fought hard to keep it going. When their original lease came up for renewal in 2023 with a steep rent increase, they chose to find a new home rather than close — reopening at Chamblee Tucker Road in December 2024. By their own account, the new location was hitting its stride: the food was the most consistent it had been since they took ownership in 2021, and the staff was as tight-knit and hardworking as ever.

But the headwinds were too much. The closure of nearby Big Lots hurt foot traffic, street closures from local protests kept customers away at times, and inflation kept squeezing costs. Then a round of significant bill increases landed all at once, and the decision was made.

"We have struggled the past year with everything," the owners wrote, citing those factors alongside the broader rise in restaurant operating costs.

In their farewell message, the owners saved their biggest thanks for staff members Dwayne, Tara, Yiny, Bill, Terrell, and Lyla — many of whom had followed them from the original location — as well as the loyal regulars who kept showing up.

"You and the staff were the best part of it all," they wrote.
