🏞️ Tucker Will Buy Land Next to Montreal Park

Tucker City Council voted to purchase two parcels of land adjacent to Montreal Park for $442K from Triangle Realty. Councilmember Cara Schroeder says the community will decide how this additional greenspace will be used.

Montreal Park currently spans 9 acres and features hiking trails, a playground, and picnic tables. See the sales contract here.

In budget news, the city is facing a significant deficit in its proposed FY2026 budget, with $25 million in projected revenue against $30M in proposed expenditures. The city manager has deferred a controversial $1.2M request for pickleball courts at the Tucker Recreation Center to FY2027, as residents have expressed concerns about potential noise.

The budget proposal also includes creating a Tucker Marshal Service, which officials emphasize would not be a city police department. The marshal service would replace the current part-time bailiffs, increasing operating costs by $200K with a $202K startup expense. Marshal duties would include:

  • Providing security for city properties, events, meetings, and courts

  • Making arrests as peace officers in municipal court and handle prisoner transport

  • Assisting Finance department with fingerprinting for business licenses

  • Supporting code enforcement with serving notices in sensitive cases
