🛍️ DeKalb Cities Promote Local Shopping for Small Business Saturday

For future holiday planning, DeKalb County municipalities actively promoted Small Business Saturday on November 29th, an initiative likely to continue in coming years.

Multiple cities implemented promotions to encourage residents to support local retailers rather than relying solely on online shopping. Decatur offered $20 gift cards for every $200 spent at participating local businesses and hosted Santa on the Square. Tucker also formally recognized the day.

The economic impact is significant: approximately 70% of money spent at local businesses remains within the community, compared to revenue that flows to corporate headquarters elsewhere. According to Decide DeKalb, small businesses depend heavily on community support, particularly during the holiday season when they generate a substantial portion of their annual revenue.

Small Business Saturday falls the day after Black Friday. Keep this in mind for next year — supporting local retailers helps maintain both economic vitality and community character in DeKalb County.
