👮 Tucker Library Bathroom Incident: Full Report Released

A DeKalb County police officer lost his reserve job after confronting a transgender woman about her restroom use at the Tucker-Reid H. Cofer Library last October. The full internal affairs report reveals the incident started when a library patron complained to a security guard, who then told officer George Weaver about the situation.

Weaver approached Sasha Swinson — who had already left the restroom and was using a library computer — and told her she'd need to use the men's or family restroom going forward. The problem? No law or library policy actually required that, and Weaver admitted he wasn't aware of any applicable law when investigators asked.

The security guard, for his part, said he never asked Weaver to intervene and didn't think Weaver had done anything wrong based on his tone. Investigators disagreed, siding with Swinson's complaint. They also flagged Weaver for not activating his body camera and failing to properly log his shift.

Weaver lost his $60/hour reserve officer gig and, according to one report, additional film industry traffic work that paid even more. He says he still doesn't believe he did anything wrong.

Swinson, meanwhile, said she wasn't trying to get anyone fired — but she's glad the department took her complaint seriously.
