🚸 Tucker Transportation Plan Focuses on Safety and Federal Funding
Tucker's transportation consultants are recommending a safety action plan that could make the city eligible for federal funding. At the April 28 City Council meeting, Pond & Company reported 13,359 crashes in Tucker over five years (2019-2023), resulting in 157 serious injuries and 38 deaths, though Tucker's fatality rate remains lower than the state average.
The plan recommends adopting a "vision zero" approach, which treats all serious crashes as preventable. For Lawrenceville Highway improvements, consultants suggested solutions including restricted crossing U-turns, mid-block crossings, landscaped medians, and pocket parks.
Residents expressed interest in enhanced bike lanes, expanded sidewalks, better speed control, and improved connections between neighborhoods and businesses.

In other city council meeting news:
💵 Budget Review: Council examined the second draft of the FY2026 budget, which includes a $30 million general fund with projected revenues of $25 million. The capital projects budget totals $43.5 million, which includes existing projects plus $18.3M in new funding (down from the $27 million originally requested).
🔃 Insurance Renewal: The council approved renewing insurance with the Georgia Municipal Association at $162,501, significantly less than the initially proposed $246,495. The increase in cost from last year reflects Tucker taking on additional public works and stormwater maintenance services previously handled by the county, along with 17 new staff positions.
Public meetings on the transportation plan are scheduled for June and August.

Small Business News 📰
Local Coffee Shop Serves as Community Hub
The Corner Cup was highlighted in Decaturish’s Small Business Spotlight ✨ as a beloved local coffee shop serving as a community hub.
As many of you have experienced, The Corner Cup has become a neighborhood favorite since its 2018 opening in Tucker. Owners Rich Lavery and Michael Vorndran have created a local coffee hub where baristas remember your order and neighbors regularly connect. Both owners have also deeply embedded themselves in the community - sponsoring local schools, the swim team, and Girl Scouts.
Popular drinks include the vanilla-honey "bee naughty latte" and "The Vermont" with maple syrup, honey and cinnamon. This is your sign to grab yourself a cup of coffee today from one of Tucker’s favorites!
