🚓 Police Chase in Tucker Ends with Four Teen Suspects Arrested
A high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle created chaos in Tucker on Friday afternoon, April 18, leading to the arrest of four teenage suspects. The incident caused Tucker Middle School to implement a precautionary lockdown.
Georgia State Patrol spotted a stolen black Kia Rio on Brockett Road near Stone Mountain Parkway around 2:39 p.m. When a trooper attempted to block the vehicle, the driver nearly collided with him before fleeing. During the pursuit, the Kia sideswiped three vehicles at an intersection and evaded a PIT maneuver before eventually crashing into a fence, after which all occupants fled on foot.
Law enforcement used K-9 units to track the suspects, with DeKalb County Police assisting in the arrests. The final suspect was spotted by a news helicopter while running along Fellowship Road and was ultimately apprehended in a wooded area.
The suspects include a 16-year-old driver from Lithonia, a 17-year-old from Lithonia, an 18-year-old from Stone Mountain, and a 15-year-old from Clarkston. All four were transported to DeKalb County Jail.
This chase comes amid recent updates to DeKalb County's police chase policy, which now allows more pursuits and PIT maneuver use by trained officers.

🏓 Tucker's Pickleball Court Project Put on Pause Amid Community Debate

Tucker's planned $3 million pickleball courts at the Tucker Recreation Center have been officially paused following significant pushback from nearby residents. The project, which began with apparent public support in 2023, now faces strong opposition from neighbors concerned about noise pollution.
Opponents like Heather Hale argue it's not just the volume but the specific frequency of pickleball sounds that would disrupt their quality of life. They've engaged attorneys and are prepared for legal action unless the courts are enclosed in a building, which would substantially increase costs.
Meanwhile, supporters emphasize the sport's inclusive nature, with player Amy Ney noting, "There are not a lot of sports you can play with grandma where it's competitive."
Mayor Frank Auman acknowledged the city's missteps in the process, particularly skipping planned public input sessions before proceeding to the bid phase. The project budget has grown from an initial $1.85 million to over $3 million.
Despite noise studies and alternative site assessments commissioned by the city, opposition remains firm. The city council is expected to address the project's status at an upcoming meeting.
