Stay in the Loop 💫

Here’s the latest scoop from the March 11th City Council meeting.

🏢 1. More rooftops in Downtown Tucker?

City staff presented the first read of an ordinance to amend downtown Tucker’s zoning rules. The proposed changes would increase the permitted density and building heights in downtown. Doing this would allow more flexibility to build rooftops, which city staff believes is necessary to support a vibrant business community.

With these changes, the goal is to encourage new development while preserving downtown Tucker’s historic character. To do this, city staff shared specific recommendations on height transitions and topography plans (pictured below).

City Council raised concerns about the feasibility of affordable housing in downtown. Staff will continue exploring additional changes to make Tucker more accessible to more residents.

The second read and public hearing for this ordinance will take place at the next City Council meeting. What do you think of the proposed changes?

🛣️ 2. Paving the way: 36 Neighborhood Street Repairs

It’s no news that some of Tucker’s streets are in bad shape. The city staff recommends tackling 36 streets that need some TLC. While some streets need minor patching, others will require full depth reclamation — a complete makeover via creating a new base foundation.

City Council approved the contract award bid to Georgia Paving for $3.1M.

⚠️ 3. Richardson Street’s Long-awaited Makeover

Richardson Street is finally getting a makeover to fix issues outlined in the Transportation Master Plan:

  • Realign the intersection at E Ponce de Leon Avenue to improve visibility;

  • Upgrade the road to meet city standards with wider lanes, drainage, and sidewalks;

  • Connect Richardson Street from E Ponce de Leon Av to Stone Mill Way, making it easier to get around.

City Council approved the contract award to Falcon Design. The project will cost $136,500 and will address both affordable housing and public safety concerns.
