๐Ÿ—๏ธ Developer Pitches 500 Apartments at Northlake Mall

Developer Trammell Crow pitched building nearly 500 apartment units at Northlake Mall, the struggling 50-acre retail center that Tucker annexed in 2019. The City Council wasn't entirely sold on the idea.

The proposal calls for two five-story buildings with 495 units total, built in phases (315 units first, then 180 more), plus green spaces and pedestrian trails. Parts of the existing mall structure would be demolished. The developer wants to fast-track 495 units in the mall's northeast corner using a special land use permit, while working on a broader master plan separately.

The council pushed back, preferring a comprehensive master planning approach rather than piecemeal development. Mayor Frank Auman noted that since Macy's wasn't part of Tucker's 2019 annexation of the mall property, creating a unified plan is tricky. The developer argued that residential units would bring energy and foot traffic that could revitalize the entire property.

In other City Council news:

  • Property purchase: Council approved spending $65K to buy property at 2010 Fellowship Road for transportation purposes

  • Stormwater repairs: Council awarded $250K in contracts for repairs at three locations to CAJENN Construction (1885 Mountain Creek Drive, 3440 Montreal Way, and 2433 Henderson Pines Court)

  • Tax rate: Council adopted a millage rate at 2.036 (down from 2.096 in 2024) to avoid triggering tax increase advertising requirements

  • Purchasing policy update: Raised formal bid threshold from $100K to $250K and minimum quote requirement from $5K to $20K

  • Park improvements:

    • $176K contract amendment for Johns Homestead Park dam work due to unsuitable soil conditions

    • $205K for new bleachers and press box at Fitzgerald Park

๐ŸŽฏ Comic Book Store Owner Opens Arcade on Main Street

Tucker's getting a new hangout spot this fall, and the community couldn't be more thrilled! Chris Brennaman, who owns Infinite Realities comic book store on LaVista Road, is opening Infinite Horizons Arcade on Main Street next to Perc Coffee in the old CrossFit gym space.

The arcade won't just be about games โ€“ it's designed as a full entertainment destination with ice cream, food, beer, wine, and mocktails. Brennaman specifically wanted to create a teenager-friendly space since Tucker High and Middle School students have limited places to hang out after school.

What to expect:

  • 25-30 arcade machines rotating from a collection of 160 different games

  • Gaming consoles like the Switch 2 on flat-screen TVs

  • Hourly or daily pricing (no coins needed)

  • Walk-up ice cream window in the alley

  • Theme nights including fighting game tournaments and "Dance Crew Night" with a Dance Dance Revolution machine

Brennaman chose an arcade over a second comic book store due to economic uncertainties around tariffs affecting overseas comic printing. He sees the arcade as a way to bring more foot traffic to downtown Tucker while giving families and teens a fun place to gather.

๐Ÿป Local Brewery Chain Scoping Out Tucker Location

Great news for beer lovers โ€“ Stillfire Brewing is reportedly eyeing a massive 6,500-square-foot space at 2316 Main Street. The popular brewery, which turned a converted fire station in downtown Suwanee into a beloved community hangout, could be bringing their craft beer magic to Tucker.

Since opening in 2019, Stillfire has won fans with their creative brews like Orange Diva (blood orange wheat ale), College Dropout (light lager), and the intriguingly named Midnight Voyage (Cuban coffee stout). Their Suwanee spot is known for its family-friendly patio and rotating food trucks โ€“ exactly the kind of vibe Tucker's Main Street could use! ๐Ÿป

So far, the community has responded with excitement to this possibility โ€” what are your thoughts?
