🛣️ “Vision Network” — Trail System Connecting all of DeKalb County

This November, DeKalb County could adopt a bold new master plan to connect the entire county with a network of paved concrete trails, known as the Vision Network. This plan would connect Tucker to the county-wide trail network.

The plan, still in draft form, aims to link existing trails and new routes, enhancing pedestrian access to schools, stores, and transit. While the exact cost and miles of trails are yet to be finalized, the initiative promises to boost local connectivity and support future growth.

Over 100 people attended the trail plan open house, and they were encouraged to take a survey. Find more details on the Vision Network and take the survey here.

Starting September 3, DeKalb Public Health will move its Tucker Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinic to four existing WIC locations across the county. This shift aims to integrate WIC services with broader public health offerings, making it a “one-stop shop” and more convenient for people to access comprehensive care.

Affected clients will now receive services at Clifton Springs Health Center, East DeKalb Health Center, North DeKalb Heath Center, and T.O. Vinson Health Center.

🐟️ Captain D’s has Closed Shop

Photo Source: Tomorrow’s News Today; Decaturish

Captain D’s unexpectedly closed its Tucker location at 2032 Montreal Road on August 12.

This closure adds to a recent trend of businesses shutting down in the Northlake area, some of which include Kacey’s and McDonald’s.

While many residents fondly recall Captain D’s decades-long presence in Tucker, most feel that the closure was inevitable. The restaurant had struggled with slow business, declining quality, and inconsistent service, leading to a general sense that this change was necessary.
