🎥 Hollywood Stars in Tucker?!

Lights, cameras, screams! On July 22nd, Idlewood Station – a residential Tucker neighborhood – was transformed into the set of Weapons, a new horror film slated for release in 2026. The plot revolves around the disappearance of high school students in a small town.

We can’t wait to see Tucker featured in this upcoming movie!

🌳 Tucker’s Town Green on Track: City Council Awards $5.4 Million Contract

Tucker’s Town Green project is slowly but surely coming to life.

On July 22nd, Tucker’s City Council awarded Hasbun Construction, LLC a $5.4 million contract for the Town Green project. These costs will cover requested features like swing benches, shade sails, and a second street entrance.

Mayor Frank Auman expressed delight that the project came in under the $6.5 million budget, which will ensure funds for any unexpected costs.

The park will be located on Railroad Avenue behind Local 7. Construction is set to start in August and is expected to be completed by June 2025. 🙌

🏢 7/22 City Council Updates

• 🛣️ The city has made made progress on 25 of the 36 recommendations from the North-South Connectivity Study. Completed in 2023, the study covered transportation issues like safety, pedestrian pathways, and traffic flow.

• 🟢 City Council approved an ordinance regulating septic tanks, which will allow local officials to intervene more quickly than DeKalb Board of Health.

• 🌳 Barge Design Solutions gave an update on Tucker’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan:

  • Short-term goals include renovating the Rec Center and adding pickleball courts and an outdoor performance space at Town Green.

  • Long-term goals include renovating pool houses at Kelley Cofer Park and Rosenfeld Park.

🏗️ 36 Apartments coming to Cowen Rd

A developer, E. Cowan Properties LLC, plans to transform the empty office building on Cowan Road into 36 apartments. The apartments will be rented at market rates.

Initial attempts to lease the building as office space failed due to low demand exacerbated by the pandemic. The developer discussed their plans at a public input meeting on July 19th. The project will include:

• minor exterior modifications like adding windows, but no major changes to the parking lot or landscape

• a new sidewalk along Cowan Road to provide access to the building’s main entrance

🌽 Tucker’s Farmers Market: this week’s highlights!

Tucker's Farmers Market is open every Thursday (4-7pm) at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (4882 Lavista Road) until October. Shop from 25+ vendors providing local fruits & veggies, baked goods, and more!

Here’s the lineup of food trucks for July 25th:

• Mrs. Rosa’s Food Truck - authentic tacos, arepas, and empanadas; artisan products w/ the smell and taste of Venezuela

• Fitzgerald Smoked Meats - food truck w/ Brunswick stew, pulled pork, ribs, brisket and more

• Vanilla Crepes- sweet or savory crepes

• Sabor Provisions - sweet or savory empanadas, drinks, and dips

• Sweet Sweet Syria - chicken mandi, falafel, chicken shawarma and more

Tomatoes, Pearson Farm peaches, watermelons, berries, and more are in season! Goat cheese, goat and cows milk also available this week, in addition to pork, beef, chicken, lamb and goat meat.

🍝 New Italian Restaurant in Lilburn

The family that owns Taqueria Los Hermanos in Tucker opened a new Italian Restaurant called Le Sorelle in Lilburn! Le Sorelle is located at 4760 Lawrenceville Hwy and is officially open as of July 23rd.

Folks who attended the soft opening reported back that the food is delicious and the restaurant is definitely worth a visit!

🧋 New Boba Shop coming to Tucker

A new boba shop is coming to Tucker! Located at 4392 Hugh Howell Rd, Boba’s and Goodies will have specialty milk teas and matcha. Stay tuned!

📚️ 5th Annual Back to School Celebration

Omega Support Center proudly hosts the 5th Annual BACK TO SCHOOL CELEBRATION on Saturday, July 27th, from 10AM-2PM. Join us for a day of fun, food, and fellowship, as we distribute free backpacks & school supplies to get ready for the 2024-2025 school year.

Location: Distribution location will be in Tucker and To Be Announced closer to the event date. All registered students will receive notifications concerning the event.

Students of DeKalb County Schools only. Eligible schools include:

• THS, Tucker Middle, Henderson Middle, Henderson EM, Brockett EM, Smokerise EM, Idlewood EM, Midvale EM, Livsey EM, Pleasantdale EM, Evansdale EM

Only 1 backpack per student, per grade. Students must be registered and provide proof of address. Register here.
