🅿️ Tucker Considers Downtown Parking Limits as Growth Picks Up

Downtown Tucker is getting busier — and city leaders are trying to stay ahead of the parking crunch.

With the $8.6 million Town Green opening Nov. 14, the City Council is eyeing new parking rules for Main Street. The proposal would make about 70 spaces between LaVista Road and Lawrenceville Highway time-limited — four hours max, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking on weekends wouldn’t be affected, but weekday violators could face a $75 fine.

To help manage the new system, the city might use “SMART Lights” — Wi-Fi-enabled streetlights that double as surveillance and communication tools.

Assistant to the City Manager Micah Seibel said most business owners are on board, though a few worry about losing their own front-row spots. The city’s still gathering feedback from merchants and plans a public meeting before anything is finalized.

Tucker currently controls 298 downtown parking spaces, including 100 on Main Street, with more on the way at the new Town Green.

In other City Council news:

  • The council approved a $250K playground project at Fitzgerald Park, funded by DeKalb County grants.

  • The city agreed to buy property at 4840 Hammermill Road for $1.9 million to house the public works department, which needs more space as operations expand.

Tucker Salon Owner Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Serious allegations have surfaced against longtime Tucker business owner John Siggers, co-owner of Siggers Hairdressers on Northlake Parkway.

A lawsuit filed in August claims Siggers sexually harassed and assaulted multiple women at his salon between 2017 and 2024. At least 5 police reports have been filed over that time. The suit also accuses his wife and business partner, Carol Siggers, of knowing about the behavior and failing to act.

The Siggers deny all allegations. Attorneys for John Siggers, who is 87 years old, say he suffers from severe dementia and is not capable of the alleged behavior.

The plaintiff, a former apprentice at the salon, says the harassment happened in the basement — that Siggers offered her money for sexual favors and touched her without consent, sometimes while threatening her job. Another former employee said she also filed a police report in 2022 after being assaulted, but didn’t hear back until this month when her case was reopened.

Police say the investigations remain open and active, though none have led to charges.

Several former employees told reporters they don’t believe Siggers’ dementia defense, noting that as recently as 2022, he was still working long hours behind the chair — something even the city’s own In Tucker magazine mentioned when naming his salon “Business of the Month.”

For now, the case is moving through federal court, and both the lawsuit and police investigations are ongoing.
