🏘️ City of Tucker Partners with ULI to Tackle Housing Challenges Head-On

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) recently completed a two-day collaborative session with the City of Tucker to address local housing challenges. The Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) brought together experts to assess housing needs and develop strategic recommendations.

On day one, the team reviewed materials, toured the study area, and interviewed community stakeholders including leaders, business owners, and residents to understand Tucker's housing landscape.

The second day focused on key questions:

  • 🏡 What housing types are needed to meet demand?

  • 📈 What density is required—and where—to maximize impact while preserving affordability?

  • 🚧 What barriers hinder housing development, and how can we accelerate projects identified in the Comprehensive Plan?

  • 🔍 What innovative zoning and code policies can be expanded or adapted from other cities to best serve Tucker’s needs?

The panel developed actionable recommendations to support Tucker's growth while maintaining affordability. Full findings will be available in an upcoming report — we’re excited to see how these efforts shape Tucker’s future 🌟 Read more here.

🏥 Driver's Illegal Pass Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash in Tucker

A collision in Tucker on Saturday morning sent 5 people to the hospital, including two children and a DeKalb County Police officer. The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. on April 5 near East Ponce de Leon and Orchard Park Drive.

According to investigators, the accident happened when a driver attempted to illegally pass another vehicle by crossing a double-yellow line. The passing vehicle struck the car it was trying to overtake, sending it into a tree, before colliding head-on with a westbound DeKalb police officer.

The officer and two children, ages 8 and 13, were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. All victims are in stable condition and expected to recover. Investigators noted that excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing. Stay safe, Tucker!
