🅿️ Tucker Considers Paid Parking Downtown
Tucker's City Council is weighing new parking rules for Main Street ahead of the Town Green's grand opening this Friday. The proposal would limit parking to four hours (8 a.m.-6 p.m., weekdays) at 70 spots between Lawrenceville Highway and Lavista Road, with a $75 fine for violations.
The fine has sparked debate—some residents think it's too steep, while Mayor Frank Auman argues it should be high enough to deter all-day parkers. "We don't want to collect fees. We just want people to comply," he said.
Councilmember Alexis Weaver pushed for tech-based solutions that would let remote workers extend their time with a quick payment, making downtown more appealing to young professionals.
The city plans to spend $60,000 on signage and restriping, with enforcement handled through paper tickets (not mailed citations). There'll be a grace period and public awareness campaign before any tickets are issued.
One resident had a blunt take: "What the hell are you going to do in downtown Tucker for four hours?" suggesting the time limit might be too generous.
The council will vote on the ordinance next month.
Also approved:
Rezoning for five townhomes at 4372 Chamblee Tucker Road
12-month extension of a special land use permit at 2247 and 2251 Northlake Parkway
Amended zoning conditions for 80-unit townhome development at 2245 Northlake Parkway
Deferred: Special land use permit for a massage establishment at Northlake Mall (will be reconsidered Dec. 8)

❌ Value Village Closing Three More Metro Atlanta Stores

Value Village is shuttering its Tucker, Snellville, and Riverdale locations on Saturday, November 15—leaving just four stores operating in Georgia.
The closures hit particularly hard in Tucker, where the Lawrenceville Highway store celebrated a "grand reopening" just six months ago after renovations under new owner Savers Value Village.
Thrift shoppers on social media blame higher prices and weaker inventory since Savers acquired the chain in May 2024, with some saying they've stopped shopping there entirely.
No liquidation sales are planned—inventory will be redistributed to remaining stores in Forest Park, Conyers, Gainesville, and Decatur. Unlike competitors like Goodwill, Savers Value Village operates as a publicly traded, for-profit company—calling itself "the largest for-profit thrift operator in the United States and Canada."
Many Tucker residents have expressed disappointment about the closure, saying the store used to be a great thrift spot before prices increased under new ownership.
